At Legacy Debate, we aim to provide an innovative curriculum that maximizes the utility and enjoyability of students' time at camp. Below, you can learn more about what we do differently.
Each student will have the autonomy to craft their own camp experience based on their specific interests and needs. Similar to how college schedules are organized, each student will have a list of classes available every day to select from so that they can maximize the time spent at camp. This includes classes that are follow formats such as practice rounds, lectures, and drill sessions. These classes will be scaled to different levels, ensuring that students get instruction that matches their needs.
To aid in the development of their schedule, each student will submit a list of staff members they would like to have as an advisor. The role of this staff member will be to help students make sure that they are getting what they desire from camp, as well as act as a resource for anything they may need throughout your camp experience.
While labs are the backbone of the camp experience, they will be incorporated into the curriculum to a minimal extent in order to ensure flexibility for students. Labs will only be roughly one-two hours per day to cover the basic foundations of debate that every student needs at their appropriate experience level.
At the end of each day, there will be time you can choose to work with any of our staff members. This will be done through a sign-up sheet to ensure that precious camp time isn't wasted waiting for a staff member to be available. You can use this time to ask questions, do drills, edit cases, or anything that would benefit your growth as a debater.
Included in the price of the second week of camp is access to a camp Dropbox that includes positions written by students and staff for the September/October topic. We will produce quality evidence and positions of all styles - K's, Policy, Philosophy, and Theory - to help you get a headstart on the new season.
We find that it is too often the case that camps overly focus on debate content at the expense of structure and skill. We will emphasize the skills that you need to be effective at the act of debating itself, regardless of the content you choose to read once you start the season.
